Toor dal is cooked till it becomes soft and tempered with mustard seeds, cumin seeds, curry leaves, hing. The aroma of the tempering makes your mouth water.

Ingredients
·           toor dal (Arhar dal) – 1 cup
·          Tomato – 1 chopped
·          Water – 3 cups
·           Turmeric powder – ½ tea spoon   
·          Mustard seeds – 1 tea spoon
·          Cumin seeds – ½ tea spoon
·         Curry leaves – 7 to 8
·         Hing – 1 pinch
·         Chili powder – 2 table spoon
·         Salt as per taste
·         Coriander leaves – 2 table spoon chopped
·         Oil – 2 table spoon
How to make maharashtrian style toor dal recipe/Arhar dal


1)      In a cooker take 1 cup toor dal(arhar dal), wash it and add 3 cups water into it. Also add chopped tomato and turmeric powder.
2)      Pressure cook the dal for about 3 whistles on medium flame. Make whistles depending on the cooking nature of dal.
3)      After 3 whistles simmer the gas for 2 minutes. After 2 minutes off the gas and allow to cool the cooker.
4)      When cooker cools then open the lid and see that is toor dal cooked or not.
5)      If the dal is cooked then heat oil in a pan. Add mustard seeds, cumin seeds, curry leaves and chopped garlic into heated oil. Aiso add a pinch of hing.
6)      Then add cooked dal. Add some water depending on the consistency you need. If you want thick curry then add less water.
7)      Add chili powder, salt and allow to boil on medium flame.
8)      Lastly add coriander leaves.
Our toor dal recipe /arhar dal is ready to serve.


Serve Maharashtrian style toor dal recipe with plain rice or jeera rice.
